OPATU HARD TIMES DANCE
DISTRICT ROAD IMPROVEMENT. The Opatu school committee held a succesful hard-times dance in aid of the school funds. The dance was held in Mr. Neilson’s woolshed. The dresses were very good. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies. Messrs. Blank, Newman and Stafford provided the music, and Mr. R. Cameron was master of ceremonies. A spot waltz was won by Mrs. W Gibbons and Mr. L. Uden, and a novelty prize by Mr. N. Penny It is the intention of the committee to hold a series of dances during the winter. The metal was finished to Opatu last May, which gives the district a metal road to the Tokirima railway station, seven miles away. .... , , .. It is understood that it is the intention of the Unemployment Board to put a married men’s camp on Newman’s place, and continue metalling down to the Wanganui River, about five miles distant.
