NEW PLYMOUTH HARRIERS

RUN TO CLUB PRESIDENT'S. A large muster of members attended the invitation run of the New Plymouth Harrier Club from the residence of Mr. C. H. Croker, the club’s president, on Saturday afternoon. The run, always one of the most popular of the year, is an annual event, and attendance seems to grow larger from year to year. There were again two packs, the slow pack being controlled by R. Stewart and the fast pack by H. S. Kingston. The slow pack led up Belt Road to the top of the hill and then across country to Omata Road, which was followed for a short distance. The pack took to the paddocks again and the pacemakers led in a westerly direction towards South Road. The fast pack caught up where the Omata Road was crossed for a second time, having run around the road to this point. The combined pack continued over very hilly country to South Road. A steady run was made from there to Mr. Croker’s home, completing a run of about 5 to 5J miles. All had a hot shower and changed. The runners and some of the officials of the club were entertained until a late hour. The afternoon was ended when Mr. A. F. Warner thanked the host and hostess for the enjoyable time provided for the club. Mr. Croker said that it was several years since he had commenced to entertain the club members and he and Mrs. Croker always looked forward to them as much or even more than did the members of the club. Next Saturday the club championships will be held from the racecourse at. 2.30 p.m. The A and B grades will race over a course of 6-J miles, while the C grade and the juniors will race over a fourmile course. There are several runners in each section* who are returning almost the same times, so that close contests in all grades should result. The second of a series of dances organised by the New Plymouth Harrier Club was held on Saturday, night and proved an outstanding success. There were about 100 couples present and modern and old music was provided by McNeill’s Dance Band. Messrs. J. Crombie and P. White were the masters of ceremonies.
