LANIROI WINS BIG HURDLE RACE. COURSE RECORD FOR DISTANCE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 6.30 p.m. Melbourne, Aug. 5. Race results at Caulfield are:— CRIMEA TRIAL. First Division. GOLD TIER, 8.2 (Bineham) 1 VIM, 1.2 (Moran) 2 SORDINO, 8.11 (Powell) 3 Sixteen starters. Head; half a head. Time, Im. 45$s. Melisande was unplaced in the second division of the same race. AUSTRALIAN HURDLES. LANIROI, 9.4 (Bracken) 1 ETYMOLOGY, 9.7 (Meredith) 2 RAIWENA, 9.6 (Mcßae) 3 Also started: Sarokos, Mount Danger, The Mirror, Silvion, Red Letter, Rodda, Seaveille. With half a mile to go Sarokos led by 12 lengths from Etymology, Laniroi and Raiwena. Etymology ran up to Sarokos, the latter blundering badly at the second to last hurdle. Laniroi took the lead entering the straight and finished best to win by six lengths, with three lengths between second and third. The Mirror pulled up. The tune, 6m. 25., is a course record. Movie Star and Ruling Light were unplaced in the Malakoff Stakes. Ai - aunah was unplaced in the Moondah Plate. CANTERBURY PARK RESULTS. DEEP RESPECT WINS MAIDEN. Rec. 6.30 p.m. Sydney, Aug., 5. The Canterbury Park races were continued on Saturday. The Maiden Stakes (first division) resulted: Deep Respect, 8.0 (Bartie) 1, Lingo, 9.0 (Webb) 2, Tilcian, 7.12 (McFarlane) and St. Glebe, 8.0 (James) dead-heated for third. There were 13 starters. Won by half a neck, the third horses a length away. Time, Im. 19s. Deep Respect was operated on for throat affliction by Dr. Ring, Auckland, and this was his first race since the operation. Sirona and Lionheart were withdrawn. The former was not fit due to a temperature and a cold. Cockpen was third in the Ashbury Handicap.
