BADMINTON IN TARANAKI

SUB-ASSOCIATION PROPOSED.

PROVISIONAL COMMITTEE SET UP.

'Representatives of five Taranaki badminton clubs met at the Coronation hall, New Plymouth, last night, and decided to form a Taranaki sub-association, and affiliate with the New Zealand Federation, provided St. Andrew’s Clift) signifies official willingness to support the formation of a provincial body. A bt. Andrew’s representative was present at the meeting, but explained that he had received no authority to commit his cluo, although it was not expected to stand out. Hawera was not represented since it 'has affiliated with Western Districts this year Next year, however, it is hoped that Hawera will join the laianaki association. Mr. St. L. Reeves, who presided, explained the object of the New Zealand Federation, in encouraging the formation of sub-associaLions with the object of having each province ultimately represented by its own body. Mr. J. Smith outlined the advantages of affiliating with the New Zealand Federation. particularly in the matter of organising anti participating in tournaments and inter-club matches. Considerable saving, he said, would also be effected on the purchase of sports goods. The Western Districts Association submitted a copy of its rules, which will probably be adopted with only minor alterations. Provincial officers appointed xveie. President, Mr. J. Collinge (New Plymouth) and A. Jarvis (Lepperton). Mr. Smith reported that Mr. G. Brunsden, Spaldings Ltd., had donated a shield for inter-club competition in Taranaki,
