LIGHTHOUSE NOT WORKING

MATAI LEAVES TO INVESTIGATE

NORTH CAPE LIGHT FAILURE.

By Telegraph—Press Association.

Auckland, June 2.

In consequence of a report by the master of the Mariposa, Captain Meyer, on arrival to-day, that the light at North Cape was not working at 6.30 last night, it has been decided that the Government lighthouse steamer Matai should investigate immediately. The Matai left port early this afternoon for North Cape and should reach the light about midnight. The Mariposa, after noticing that the light was not showing, notified the Monowai by radio. The North Cape light is distinct from the lighthouse at Cape Maria Van Diemen.
