County cricket results are: Warwickshire beat Middlesex: wickshire in the first innings made 281 (Parsons 101) and in the second 247 Middlesex in the first innings made 225 and in the second 184 (Paine five for 71). Warwickshire won by 119 runs. Kent beat Essex: Kent in the first innings lost four for 803 and declared (Ashdown 332, Woolley 172, Arnes * 202 not out). Essex in the first innings made 408 (Pope 100, O’Connor. 105) and followed on, making 203 (Freeman six for 60). Kent won by an innings and 192 runs. . Sussex beat Somerset: Sussex, in the first innings lost five wickets for 463 and declared (J. Parks 160, Melville 105, James Langridge 88 not out). Somerset in the first innings made 140 (Tate four for 39) and followed on, making 272 (J. Cornford six for 63). Sussex won by an innings and 51 runs. Yorkshire beat Northamptonshire: Northants in the first innings made 153 (Verity four for 43), and in the second 100 (Verity four for 25). Yorkshire in. the first innings mad- 257 (Partridge five for 99). Yorkshire won by an innings and four runs.,, Lancashire beat Glamorgan: Lancashire in the first innings lost seven for 514 and declared (Tyldesley 239,’ Hopwood 123). Glamorgan in the first innings made 352 (Dyson 191 not out) and followed on, losing four for 148. Lancashire won on the first innings. Leicestershire beat Gloucestershire: Gloucester in the first innings made 161 (Smith five for 57, Geary five for 21), and in the second 293 (Allen 83, Neale 83 not out); Gearl five for 60). Leicester in the first innings made 326, and in the second lost one- for 129. Leicester won by nine wickets. Minor Counties drew with Oxford: Minor Counties in the first innings lost eight wickets for 539 and declared (Farrimond 174), and in the second lost four for 129. Oxford in the first innings made 469 (Mitchell-Innes 140, Seamer 194). The .match was drawn. Kent, on the first day of their match, lost two for 622. This total was within 22 runs of Surrey’s record day’s score. Ashdown’s 332 is a record for Kent. Kent’s average rate of scoring was 114 per hour.
