“WAR NOT INEVITABLE”
MR. J. H. THOMAS’ OPINIONS WORLD EVENTS CONSIDERED BRITISH FOREIGN POLICY AVOIDANCE OF ALLIANCES By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 7 p.m. London, June 2. “From knowledge of events throughout the world and the actions of the British Government there is no justification for the assumption that war is inevitable in the near future, said Mr, J, H. Thomas, Secretary for the Dominions, at Derby. “We are all disappointed that we have not. been able to persuade the rest of the world to disarm. We have never entered alliances binding us to aid any country in war. It is not the .Government's intention thus to commit itself, but that does not mean that it would not strive for peace or persuade others to do the right thing.”
