EFFECT OF PERSECUTION RACIAL SUICIDE PREDICTED. London, May 22. If the Nazis continue to persecute the Jews it will mean national suicide for Germany, Professor Elliot Smith, an Aus-tralian-born authority on anthropology, told a representative of the News Chronicle. The professor, who is chairman of the scientific committee of the Royal Anthropological Institute, which was recently established to collect evidence on the part which the races have played in building civilisation, end that, although it was against the principle of anthropologists to engage in political controversy, they felt it essential to disprove the Nazis’ grossly unscientific claims regarding the Aryan race as a factor in cultural development. Moreover, the Germa, statement that, through the Jews, peoples and their culture die, was nonsense. The Jews played a pre-eminent 'art in introducing Greek civilisation into barbarian Europe. The Nordic-races did not participate until civilsaton had long been establshed. Moreover, there was no such thing as a pure Nordic people. All races were inextricably mixed, especially the Nordic, while the Jews were also mixed. Progress depended on the mixture of races. The preservation of typothetical purity meant racial suicide.
