NEW BEACON AT WELLINGTON
LIGHT AT STEEPLE ROCK. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The new beacon at Steeple Rock, off Seatoun, has been completed, except for the permanent flashing lantern, which has not yet arrived at Wellington. Yesterday the Harbour Board’s floating crane Hikitia took the accumulator house out to the rock and placed it in position on top of the main body of the beacon, which has been filled with concrete.
Pending the arrival of the lantern in a month or so the old kerosene lantern, removed some years from the low-level light, will serve as a riding light on the beacon.
