Keen racing in which large fields were engaged was witnessed by a good attendance at Ellerslie yesterday when.the Auckland Racing Club’s Great Northern Steeplechase meeting opened in dull weather. The track was very heavy. The totalisator handled £36,749 10s, compared with £47,190 last year, a decrease of £10,440 10s from the corresponding day of last year, which was the King s Birthday holiday.
