WOMEN’S DIVISION
MEETINGS OF BRANCHES. Urenui: The monthly meeting was held on Monday, Mrs. Phillip (presidept) presiding over rather a small attendance. Owing to alterations in the hall no demonstration was arranged. The president discussed the executive meeting held at New Plymouth particularly dwelling on the expenses connected with the shop and rest room. The branch donated £1 towards expenses. Reference was made to the work of the retiring secretary, Miss Newton, in the division during her two years of office. Miss Newton contributed • pianoforte solos. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Willison, Purdie, Mooney, and Mabin. Cardiff: The branch held its monthly meeting on Wednesday afternoon, there being a good attendance. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Brunton, Mrs. W. Myers occupied the chair. A competition for an article made from a yard of cretonne, was won by Mrs. Myers, Mrs. Steener being second. It was decided to send a delegate to the annual conference at Wellington. A demonstration of lamp shade making was given by Mrs. Carter, Stratford? The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Hoskin, Steener and Miss M. Rayner. Hunter Road: The monthly meeting of the branch was held last week and Mrs. Carter presided. Arrangements were made for the division’s exhibits at the Hawera show. The president gave a resume of the South Taranaki executive meeting. Two competitions were held for the best cushion cover not costing more than 2s and the best plate of shortbread. Hostesses for the afternoon were Misses Chalmers and Startup. Brixton: The branch met on Wednesday afternoon, when a presentation was made to Miss Jessie Muir, who is to be married shortly. There was a large attendance of members and visitors. A welcome was extended to Mrs. Flett, Wellington, Mrs. G. Fulton, Tuakau, and Mrs. Street, New Plymouth. A competition for a thrift article was won by Mrs. H. Rjwe. Competitions in charge of Mrs. Poletti and Miss Fulton vere won by Mrs. G. Fulton and Mrs. McCaul. On behalf of the branch the president, Mrs. McCaul, presented to Miss Muir a crystal jug and a dish with best wishes for her future happiness. Hostesses were Mesdames Poletti, Rowe, Hopson and Miss Purdie.
