CLAUSE TO BE AMENDED
OFF-SIDE MOTORING RULE. ACTION BY GOVERNMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, June 1. Seen to-day in reference to the magistrate’s (Mr. T. E. Maunsell, Nelson) dismissing of the information agamst the driver of a motor vehicle for failure to observe the offside rule, the Transport Commissioner (Mr. A. S. Hunter) intimated that Mr. J. G. Coates, Minister of Transport, was taking immediate steps to have the clause in the regulations amended to clear up any confusion. The commissioner said that any alteration would definitely retain the principle of motorists giving way to all traffic approaching from the right at intersections if a collision seems likely- , Until such time as the statute • can be broadened to empower the Government to include all traffic in the regulations, the Minister of Transport urges that, in the interests of public safety and uniformity, drivers of any kind of vehicle, also push cyclists, should universally observe the offside rule. Trains are exempt.
