MONTEREY HOLD-UP LIKELY
AMERICAN WATERFRONT STRIKE. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. San Francisco, May 20. It is regarded as certain that the Monterey will be held up by a strike. Half the crew is reported tojiave walked out and negotiations for the settlement of the coast waterfront strike have reached a deadlock, as the unions refuse to confer unless a “closed shop” will be guaranteed.
The Monterey is scheduled to leave San Francisco on May 29 for Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne.
