MIDHIRST DISTRICT NEWS

PERSONAL AND GENERAL ITEMS. One of the most enjoyable dances held at Midhirst this year took place on Wednesday night. The tennis club was the organiser. The hall was gaily decorated, under the supervision of Mr. Costelli. Visitors were present from Mangatoki, Kaimata, New Plymouth, Tariki, Tuna, Stratford, Cardiff, Makahu and Huiroa. Music was supplied by Vinsen’s Orchestra, and extras were played by Miss V. Hall, Tariki, and Mr. Henry, Stratford. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Redding and Mr. N. Copeland, and a spot waltz by Miss Potroz and Mr. J. McGregor. A much appreciated 'innovation was a demonstration of tap dancing by Miss Elwyn Riley and pupils. Masters of ceremonies were Messrs. W. Platt «nd E. Trass Basketball Club Successes. The Midhirst basketball team was again successful on Thursday when it defeated Inglewood. This season the team has played and won three games. Personal. Mr. W. Mail, New Plymouth, has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. A. Guthrie Mrs. V. Sherson and family, Opunake, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. Smith. Mrs. L. Vickers and family, who have been spending a few days at New Plymouth, have returned. Mr. and Mrs. W. Bunning motored to Takapau, via Dannevirke, to visit his father. Mr. M. Costelli recently broke Iris wrist while cranking a car. _ Mrs. Laird, senr., Wanganui, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Laird. Mrs. C. Carrol was recently hostess at a very pleasant afternoon party. The afternoon was spent in competitions, of which the winners were Mesdames A. Guthrie, Clark and W. Bunning. Among those present were Mesdames G. Smith, R. Laird, Wanganui, P. Anderson, V. Sherson, V. Carrol, A. Graham, A. Guthrie, G. Anderson, Clark, J. Vickers, W. Anderson, W. Bunning, W. Platt and Miss Wardell. Mrs. J. Vickers, who has been spending a fortnight’s holiday with her daughter, Mrs. Hamilton, Te Wera, has returned. Mrs. J. Hall, who has been on holiday at Taumarunui, has returned home. Dr. Hogg and Mr. Bob Hogg, Wellington, are visitors to Midhirst. Mrs. Mail, New Plymouth, has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. A. Guthrie. Mr. W. Guthrie, who has been spending school holidays at New Plymouth, has returned home.
