CHRYSANTHEMUM BLOOMS
SHOW HELD AT BELL BLOCK. Despite rather threatening weather and many counter-attractions, there was a good attendance at the chrysanthemum tea organised in the hall by the ladies of St. Luke’s guild at Bell Block on Saturday. Though the entries were not as large as was expected, there were some very fine blooms on show, the judge expressing himself as being much impressed with their quality. The general management was in the hands of the president, Mrs. J. H. Street, and the secretary, Mrs. G. French. A well-attended dance was held in the evening, the music being provided by Messrs. Rowe and Watson. Messrs. T. Mallon and G. Holmes were the masters of ceremony. Progressive euchre for the non-dancers took place in the supper room. The show prize list is:— Decorative. Judge, Mrs. J. W. Downs (New Plymouth) Bowl of chrysanthemums: Mrs. J. Giddy 1, Mrs. J. H. Street 2. Bowl of flowers, any variety: Mrs. G., Bracegirdle 2. Vase of flowers, any variety: Miss Nancy French 1, Mrs. J. H. Street 2, Mrs. A. Hill 3. Chrysanthemum Classes. Judge, Mr. E. Marsh (New Plymouth). Best three blooms: Mrs. J. H. Street 1. Best six blooms: Mrs. A. H. Street 1, Mrs. J. H. Street 2. Best twelve blooms: Mrs. J. H. Street 1, Mrs. H. Hill 2. The following were in charge of stalls: Produce, Mesdames W. Holmes and Mallon; jumble, Mesdames A. H. Grover and A. H. Street; sweets, Misses May Mallon and Judy Jeffrey; afternoon tea, Mesdames J. Jeffrey, Johns, Bracegirdle, Oman, Botham, W. Rowe and Misses French and L. Sampson; door, Mrs. H. Sampson. During the afternoon a one-act play, “Mrs. Sharp Marries Again,” s?as staged by the young people of the district, those taking part being Mrs. W. Holmes, Mrs. G. W. Bracegirdle, Mrs. L. Oman, Miss L. Sampson, Miss N. French and Miss G. Sole. Miss Topsy Batt gave a fapejr dance.
