FINE OF £lOO THE PENALTY. LEAVE TO SEEK NEW TRIAL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. John Simmons, who was found guilty of having about February 7 at Timaru, with interft to obtain money by false pretences, falsely packed 13 bales of wool in such a manner that wool valued at 21d a pound was placed at the top and bottom and wool worth 9d a pound was placed in the middle, came up for sentence to-day. He was fined £lOO, with costs aggregating £56 18s sd, in default six months’ imprisonment. ' The judge granted leave to move for a new trial and for the submission of the case to the Court of Appeal.
