HUNDRED AND FOUR SONGS
COMPETITIONS AT WELLINGTON. HIGHER ART ENCOURAGED. fx fyk By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Acting on the advice of the GovernorGeneral, who at the last festival pointed out that a young country had at some time to make a start in higher cultural art and that there was often latent talent in the community which only needed some encouragement to make itself manifest, the Wellington Competitions Society recently offered a prize of £25 and a second prize of £5 for the best original song with accompaniment. Entries have closed and the secretary of the society states that 104 songs have been received. They come from almost every place in New Zealand from Whangarei to Invercargill. The songs have been forwarded to the adjudicator, and his report will be available in time for the forthcoming festival.
