TRADE WITH UNITED STATES. MINISTER’S HOPEFUL OUTLOOK. Prospects of better reciprocal trade With the United States as a result of an interview he had had With President Roosevelt Were indicated in a letter 1 from the Hon. R. Masters, Minister of Industries and Commerce, received by the council of the Auckland Chamber Of Commerce on Thursday. “I think the letter is ohe of the most useful we have had from a Minister for a long time/' said the president, Mr. A. The President said: “It Would be very advantageous to both countries if America could sell New Zealand goods worth £1,000,000 and in return New Zealand could sell us £1,000,000.” The Minister gathered that negotiations were then in progress with a number of countries with a view to effecting reciprocal trade treaties. He was convinced that the mind of the President and those associated with him Went in the direction of facilitating trade relations between New Zealand and the United States, and as an indication of America’s goodwill he thought they could say that the lifting of the embargo oh NeW Zealand ' apples entering: America was a Very encouraging sigh. He Was hopeful that there Would be a definite development of a satisfactory fruit trade. He and hiS colleagues' Wefe fully alive to the necessity for securing every possible market for produce, and every effort was being made to develop existing channels of trade and open up new Ones.
