GALLOPS AT ELLERSLIE

DISPLAY OF GOOD FORM RED MANFRED SHOWS SPEED. SEVERAL INTERESTING TRIALS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, March 29. , Fine weather prevailed for the final gallops at Ellerslie tliis morning. The bulk of the work was done on the course proper, the poles being 35 feet out. The going was in excellent order and some first-class gallops were recorded, the best being those of Curie, Melisande, Senior, Imamint, Sunny Sky, Star Artist, Royal Artist, Red Manfred and Kiltowyn. On the course proper Burnish and Pomp jumped off at the five furlong post, running the first two in 24 3-ss, completing in lm 4 2-ss. Burnish, who worked very freely,- was slightly in front at the end. Curie finished slightly in front of Epigram and Master Brierly over a mile. He led throughout, running the first two furlongs in 24 3-ss, four in 50 4-ss, five in lm 3 3-ss, and the full distance in lm 435. He carried more weight than the other pair, who -Iso did well. Gay Broney was in front of Desert Star, with Wee Pat and Kilmuir further back, after a mile run in lm 44 l-ss. Lady Spy went away in front of Karangapai at the five furlongs post, the former taking lm 5 l-5s and the latter Is 9s. They did the last half mile in 51 3-ss. Melisande and Senior finished in front of Werohia over a mile in lm 45 2-ss. Tire first five furlongs took lm 6 2-ss, Senior then being in front, but Melisande, who was wide out, shaded him at the finish. Imamint reeled off half a mile in 50 2-ss, running on solidly at the end. Coronilla and Capris ran three furlongs in 38 3-ss. Pin Money ran five furlongs in lm 9 2-ss. Knight of Australia showed up better than D’Artagnan over seven furlongs in lm 345. Prolyxo and Sunny Sky finished well clear of Ornamental after seven furlongs in lm 30 2-ss, the first half mile in 50 l-ss.

STAR ARTIST PLEASES. Jonathan and Impasto, over seven furlongs, finishihg practically on terms in Im 31 2-ss, running the first three in 36 3-5 s and consequently stopping at the end. . : Psychologist, over a similar distance, ran the first four furlongs in 50 4-ss, and finished in Im 33 3-ss. Rust and Spiral were associated over a round in 2m 11 4-ss, the last six furlongs in lm 22 4-5 s and the final- half mile jn 56 4-ss. Neither was extended. . Solomon was too good for Brown. Lap over half a mile in 50 2-ss. Royal Artist and Star Artist worked over seven furlongs. There was little between them at the finish. They ran the first half mile in 51s and the full distance in lm 31 l-ss. Star Artist had the worse of the weights and her effort was pleasing. Red Manfred made a pleasing effort over seven furlongs in lm 30 3-ss. He ran the first three in 38 2-5 s and the four in 50 l-ss. He was very wide out and the gallop compared favourably with any other during the morning. Baroscope and Catoma were sent over a mile and a quarter in 2m 21 2-ss; the last round taking 2m 8 l-ss, the seven in lm 33 4-5 s and the final half mile in 55 4-ss. . Baroscope . was going better at the finish. Lordly Knight ran six furlongs in lm 19 2-ss. King Musk. was being held back to Glenrata and United after seven furlongs'run in lm’34s, the first half mile taking 51 2-ss. King Musk’s effort was impressive. • Kiltowyn, who had a fair amount of pace on when he went away from the half mile post, ran the first furlong in 12 l-5s and finished in 50s, going well all the way. GOLDEN HAIR LOOKS WELL. Golden Hair was allotted steady work over a couple of rounds. She looks none the worse for her racing at Trentham. Prince of Orange jumped four hurdles, giving a safe display, but did not have much pace on. He afterwards ran six furlongs on the grass 2 in lm 19 3-ss. Snow Prince and Callamart were companions in a similar task, giving a firstrate exhibition. Afterwards they ran seven furlongs oh the course proper in lm 39 4-ss. Cargen cleared four hurdles, giving a satisfactory display. ; Riotous, Brown Abbey, Town Beauty, Dome, Billy Boy and Zane Grey were, sent over a round of the steeplechase course and were in that order practically throughout. Riotous jumped particularly well and Brown Abbey also pleased. Billy Boy hit the first fence of the double each time. At Takanini, Gay Sheila finished in front of .Expectancy over seven furlongs in lm 29 l-ss, the last four in 495. Gay Blonde ran five. furlongs in 60 3-ss. It was a first-class effort. King March was scratched for the Easter Handicap at 11.5 a.m. Irish Comet has been scratched for the Mangere steeplechase. GALLOPS AT RICCAIRTON IMPROVEMENT IN THE COURSE. SOME GOOD PERFORMANCES. Christchurch, March 29. The weather was fine for training work at Riccarton this morning. The course had dried rapidly and the inside of the trial grass track provided excellent going. Cricket Bat ran a mile in lm 41 3-ss, going veiy well. Meprisant ran seven furlongs in lm 29 3-ss. Trumpet Blast ran half a mile along the back in 495. Scarlet Rambler and Heather Glow took 49 2-5 s and Copyist, going easily, took 51 3-5 s for half a mile. Dollar Prince and Custodian ran six furlongs in lm 17 l-ss. Masquerader ran five furlongs, the last half mile taking 50 2-ss. Variant beat Silver Jest over five furlongs in lm 3 3-ss. Shatter and Imperial Spear ran a mile in lm 43 3-ss. Tout le Monde beat Invoice over half a mile in 51s. Bell Hill and Cup Bearer did half a mile in 51s. Master Reynard beat Joyous over half a mile in 50 2-ss. Cranford ran six furlongs comfortably in rim 19s. Croupier ran seven furlongs . in lm 29 2-ss. Some Shambles took lm 31 3-5 s for seven furlongs. Orris beat Chidden over five furlongs in lm 3 4-ss. Rebel Star and Cleaner took lm 4 2-5 s and Grampian and Eupator lm 4s for five furlongs. Pleasant Memory ran a mile in lm 46 2-ss. Count Palatine ran seven furlongs well in lm 29 3-ss. .
