Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bachelor, Eketahuna, who have been the guests of Mrs. Boothby, Waihi Road, have returned home, Mrs. Franklyn is spending the Easter holildays as the guest of her son at Palmerston North. Mrs. Baker, Christchurch, who was visiting her sister, Mrs. Riddle, has returned. Mr. and Mrs. J. Lindsay, Wairarapa, were Mr. and Mrs. Boothby’s guests for the week-end. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE GATHERING. RETIRING OFFICERS HONOURED. A pleasant gathering took place at Normanby when the Taranaki District Federation of Women’s Institutes held an executive committee meeting. This was the final meeting of the present committee, and members took the opportunity of showing their appreciation of the services of the secretary (Miss Burkhart) and treasurer (Mrs. L. Brown), who are not seeking re-election. The president, Mrs. Kaye, made appreciative reference to the loyalty and keenness of these members and thanked them for the very valuable work they had done for the Taranaki Institutes. She asked Mrs. Brown to accept a rose bowl and cup and saucer, and Miss Burkhart a cup and saucer and serviette ring as mementos of the occasion and tokens of gratitude from the members. In reply both Mrs. Brown and Miss Burkhart said their work had been a pleasure and they much regretted leaving it. They thanked the members for their gifts and their good wishes. Mesdames W. Kaye (Inglewood), Morey and Whitehead (Tikorangi), WhitbyJames (Hawera), Walter (Patea), McAsey (Te Roti), Brown (Inglewood), Misses Burkhart (New Plymouth) and Free (Normanby) were entertained at afternoon tea by Mesdames Pidgon and Hopcroft. KAPONGA BIRTHDAY PARTY. About 50 guests were present at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Mellow, Eltham Road, Kaponga, on Tuesday night, when the 21st birthday of Miss Dulcie Mellow was celebrated. Mr. J. Hooker proposed the toast of the evening and Mr. Mellow presented his daughter with a gold key and expressed best wishes for her future happiness. Mr. George Guthrie proposed the toast of the parents, stating that they were among his first friends in Taranaki. He wished them long life and happiness. An iced birthday cake surmounted by 21 kewpies was cut. Mr. L. Nicholson replied on behalf of Miss Mellow thanking the visitors for their gifts. The evening was spent in dancing, the music being played by Mr. Jack Hooker, Miss D. McGregor, Messrs. L Divehall, T» and R. Norgate, , - - ■
