EVENING TO MISS I. POTTS.

A dance and presentation was given in honour of Miss Iris Potts at the Eltham Oddfellows’ Hall this week, the evening being arranged by the Eltham Ladies’ Hockey Club, of which Miss Potts was a member. Miss B. Walker presented Miss Potts with a brass vase as a memento of her long membership of the club. The speaker said she had been a most enthusiastic hockey player and a popular member of the community.

Mr. R. Arnold replied on behalf of Miss Potts and thanked the ladies for their gift. Dance music was played by Mrs. W. Sait and extras were given by Miss N. Prince. Supper was served by Hesdames L. A. Gower and L. R. Reakes and the hockey club members. CROQUET PLAYERS FAREWELLED. Mesdames H. J. Webber and Hall were farewelled by members of the Hawera Park Croquet Club at the residence of Mrs. W. R. Shaw on Tuesday. Mrs. Hall will leave to reside at Christchurch and Mrs. Webber at Whakatane. Competitions and musical items were held and afternoon tea was served. Mrs. A. Murdoch, the club president, voiced the regret of members at the impending departure of the guests and on behalf of the club made a presentation to each. Mr. Exley also spoke on behalf of members. Competitions were won by Mesdames Shaw, Hay and Murdoch.

A Student Rag. There were uproarious scenes at the Garrick Theatre recently when the oldtime music hall show being staged there was visited by a party of eighty students from a London hospital. The students, dressed in white coats, arrived in motorcoaches before the performance was due to begin and made their way to the bar. A wager as to the possibility of jumping down a flight of stairs to the landing below in one leap marked the beginning of the uproar. There were numerous acceptors of the challenge, and within a few minutes the bar and the stairs became a mass of struggling, shouting, white-coated figures. Glasses and bottles were smashed.
