URENUI CAMP POSITION
TEN MEN MISS DAY’S WORK. PROVIDED FOR BY COMMITTEE. At least ten of the men who had been struck off the register because of refusal to take up work at the Urenui deviation camp under the conditions offered, and who had their suspension raised by the decision of the Unemployment Board following the representations of Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., missed the day’s work on Thursday which the board decided they should have in order to give money with which to buy provisions at Easter. The circular letters to the men were posted at 5 p.m. on Wednesday and delivered in the morning. Some men. had left their- homes by the time the mail arrived and so missed the notification, which if presented to the foreman of the job they had previously been working on would have entitled them to a day’s work at 10s. However, the committee set up at the public protest meeting saw to it that these men did not go without provisions for Easter.. The conference between the Unemployment Board, the Main Highways Board, the Clifton County Council and relief workers’ representatives will probably take place on Wednesday,
