MISSING KETCH PATTESON
MELANESIAN MISSION SHIP. BUILT AT COST OF £2OOO. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, March 29. The auxiliary ketch Patteson reported from Suva as missing, is the Melanesian Mission’s ship on her maiden voyage from Sydney. She was built in Sydney at a cost of £2OOO, which was subscribed by friends of the mission, including a large number in Auckland. A white crew was engaged at Sydney to take her to the Islands. She cleared Noumea on March 21 for Vila and since then has not been heard of. When the Southern Cross the Fifth was recently broken up the mission decided to replace her with a motor-ship and an auxiliary. The motor-ship was wrecked on Aneityum Island while on her maiden voyage.
