NEARLY £2000 TO BE RAISED

HAWERA EFFORT ALREADY £1645. CROWNING CEREMONY TO . COME. The Hawera effort for the relief of unemployment will realise almost doubl* the objective, of £lOOO. The final result will depend upon the profit on th* crowning ceremony on April 4. A summary of the receipts is: Queen carnival £1337 2s 6d, gala at Park £lOB 14s lid, bazaar (estimated) £200; total, £1645 17s sd. The exact profit on the bazaar is not yet known, but it is likely that the £2OO will be exceeded. The crowning ceremony is also expected to attract a large attendance. ' , . ' Mr. John Young, a well-known Palmerston North business man, who ha* been active in raising funds for the-re-lief of unemployment, yesterday telegraphed the Hawera organiser, Mr. L. 0. Hooker, as follows: “Heartiest congratulations on magnificent carnival result, which is a great compliment to your leadership and originality.” At the bazaar on the closing night * dance attracted over • 300 people. Th* mannequin parade also drew a large attendance. The Normanby schoolboy*’, challenge was taken up by Convent Old Boys, who won after an exciting pull.
