WESTOWN HALL SOCIETY

LOSS ON YEAR’S WORKING. The annual meeting of the Westown Hall Society was held last night, when Mr. R. Wright presided over an attendance of about 20. The report drew attention to the fact that the balance-sheet this year showed a debit balance of £l3 3s 4d. The amount of depreciation written off from the building had been £37 10s and from the furniture, fittings, etc., £5, which helped to bring about the debit balance and reduced the total value of the building, section, etc., from £1449 10s to £1407. There had also been a reduction in the value of the debentures issued from £750 .last year to £6BO, the £7O difference being the amount paid for the purchase of seven £lO debentures at £5 each.

The financial position to date was as follows: The amount in the banks £2l Is 7d, and sundry debtors for rent due £5 Is 6d, whilst the only liabilities were £l7 for debenture interest due, and income tax £2 0s lid. A general overhaul of the building and furniture was completed and minor repairs attended to, the old picture box being dismantled and the material used for lining the kitchen. Sixteen dozen cups and saucers had been purchased during the year, some to replace breakages and the balance to cope with the attendance .at the Saturday night dances. Tenders were called for painting the hall, and from the eight received one had been accepted and the work completed. . During the year a fire occurred m the kitchen portion of the hall, which necessitated repairs amounting to £3B 16s 6d. The work was completed to the satisfaction of the committee. It was thought necessarv to invest in a new piano, which was purchased for £22, the old one being sold for £2 10s. The splendid efforts of the entertainment, committee had met with success, the weekly dances bringing in a total for the year of £lO4 13s 3d nett. The report and balance-sheet -were adopted without discussion. ’ / The following officers were elected: President, Mr. R. Wright; vice-president, Mr O. Knofflock; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. V. C. Davies; auditors, Messrs. Duff and Wynyard; committee, Messrs. R. Lander, T. Bates, J. Birmingham, H. Marfell, L. E. Smtih and E. L. Mason. The following were elected an entertainment committee with power to add to their numbers: Mrs. L. E. Smith, Miss E. Shepherd and Messrs. J. Birmingham and L. E. Smith.
