NORTH TARANAKI AFFAIRS. TOWN VERSUS COUNTRY MATO The executive of the north division of the Taranaki Cricket Association met last night. Present: Messrs. S. O. Jones (chairman), J. Birch, H. W. Brown, H. L. Larkin, W. Beard, F. C. Ferry, R. Short, R. Sarten, H. Soffe, J. M. Thomson and H. J. Abram (honorary secretary). The chairman reported that two players had paid capitation fees as members of the Band club. The meeting confirmed the action of the secretary >in informing the South Taranaki division that March 24 would be a suitable date for the provincial playoff at New Plymouth. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Beard for giving a case to hold the Mason Cup, which was won by the town team in its annual fixture against North Taranaki country representatives. Mr. Beard was authorised to arrange for the removal of the mower from Western Park to Sanders Park. It was decided to thank Mr. W. A. Graham for the loan of a horse during the past two seasons. In connection with the forfeit of two matches by the Okato club (Senior B), Mr. Beard said there was a misunderstanding by the club to the effect that there was not to be a fourth round. The club representatives had made inquiries from a visiting New Plymouth team, but no one could tell them. When it was discovered the club had to play a match with Old Boys some of the club’s players were ensilage-making.

It was pointed out that the round, was notified in the Press, but the chairman said he did not think there was a deliberate intention to forfeit. It was a mistake. ,

It was decided to award the match to Old Boys and to draw the attention of the Okato club to the rules that if it defaults the club has to pay ground fees. If it were intended to default the fact i must be notified by the Thursday proceeding the day fixed for the match. It was decided that instead of the twoday fixtures in the senior competition on March 10 and 17 a one-day fixture be played on March 10 and that Western Park play the winner of the country competition on March 17 at Pukekura- Park to find the team to play the final against the winning team in the South Taranaki competition. Mr. H. L. Larkin was appointed manager of the Western Park team, the hours of play to be 1.15 p.m. to 6 p.m. It was decided to regrade A. Petty, N. Gilbert and N. Kinsella from senior A to senior B. In connection with what was described as “a little bit of a mix-up” in the time of drawing of stumps on Saturday the chairman pointed out that by resolution on October 16, 1933, it had been decided . that the hours of play should be from 2 to 6 p.m. in October and April and from 2 to 6.30 from November till the conclusion of summer-time. The hours of play in the intervening period had been fixed at from 2 to 6 p.m. ‘ It was decided that owing to a misunderstanding regarding the hours of play the Old Boys-New Plymouth junior match last Saturday should be replayed •> if the match had any bearing on the result of the championship. The match had finished at 6 instead of 6.30 p.m. The executive decided to congratulate S. Betts, Kaponga, on having obtained 100'J runs during the season.
