HAWERA BAND IN DEBT

QUESTION OF BOROUGH GRANT. FULL MEETING AWAITED. The Hawera Municipal Band is £7 la 10s in debt, it was reported at the annual meeting last night. There is £59 bank overdraft and £l7 10s outstanding accounts. Emphasising the need for financial support the retiring president, Mr. E. Dixon, said it was hoped the borough council would make a further grant. The council had agreed to reopen the question of the cutting of the band subsidy. The councillors, he said, had agreed amongst themselves not to discuss the matter until there was a full meeting of the council. Since then, five months ago, there had not been a full meeting. If the council would not give the money the public must or Hawera could not have a band. ATHLETIC EVENTS AT PATEA. LAST NIGHT’S PERFORMANCES.
