KOHURATAHI SPORTS DAY
CLUB’S RECORD ATTENDANCE. The Whitianga-Kohuratahi Sports Club held its annual meeting on Mr. Oliver’s property, Kohuratahi Road, on Thursday. Favoured by ideal weather conditions the gathering was one of the most successful held and drew a record attendance from Kohuratahi and neighbouring districts. Details of the events are as follow: — 100 yards handicap: Mitchell 1, E. Spencer 2, D. Willis 3. Single ladies’ race: Miss Meere 1, Miss Law 2, Miss E. West 3. 220 yards handicap: C. Cleland 1, W. Fraser 2, H. Frewin 3. Married ladies’ race: Mrs. Long 1, Mrs. S. Anderson 2. Maiden chop: O’Dea 1, C. Brown 2, J. Stockwell 3. Open jump (horse): E. Oliver 1, W. Shine 2. Walk and trot: C. R. McCartie 1, Kemp 2. 440 yards handicap: C. Cleland 1, Callaghan 2, Madgwick 3. Egg and spoon race: J. Hill 1, E. West 2. Sweepstake chop: Brown 1, Harrison 2. Mile handicap: Tuffery 1, Quinn 2. Committeemen’s race: E. Clark 1, Cooper 2. Addition race: Mrs. Connor and Mitchell. Nail driving: Miss D. West; S. Anderson Shooting: Mrs. E. Clark, Mantle. Weight of sheep guessing competition: Mrs. G. Corbett; F. Spence. Stepping the chain: H. Kemp, Peas in bottle: J. Stockwell. A dance in the school in the evening was largely attended. Mr. Gower (president) took the opportunity of. thanking all who helped to make the gathering, such a success.
