DOMINION RELIEF FIGURES 4220 UNPLACED OR INELIGIBLE. THIRD ON DEVELOPMENTAL WORK. WAGES OF 26,700 SUBSIDISED; By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Returns issued to-night by the. Unemployment Board show that applicants for work on the registers of Government employment bureaux as at February 17 totalled 41,896. This number includes 4220 men on the registers unplaced or ineligible for unemployment relief for various reasons. Of the remaining 37,676 receiving relief it is estimated that 11,500 were employed on developmental and reproductive work calculated to benefit the Dominion’s primary industries. Workers engaged in industrial undertakings whose earnings were subsidised from the Unemployment Fund as >at February 17 were: Farm workers (schemes 4a, 4b, etc.), 10,000; building tradesmen and builders’ labourers under scheme 10, 6954; workers in Government department and local body camps under scheme 6 (principally single men), 2738; workers employed by the.RuL’ Works Department at standard rates of pay (principally married men), 3342; gold miners and prospectors, 3608; miscellaneous, 80; total, 26,722.
