Have ready a quarter of a cupful of granulated sugar, and half a cupful of butter. Add . these to the hot syrup with a tablespoopful of milk, and cream, all together with a wooden spoon. Sift into a basin two cupsful of selfraising flour, with half a teaspoonful each of bicarbonate of soda, salt, cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Stir this into the liquid ingredients. Take a little of this mixture at a time, roll it out as thinly as possible on a floured board, and cut it into rounds with the top of a glass, or into any pretty shapes you fancy.
