MOKI TUNNEL PREPARATIONS. Apparently in preparation for the Moki tunnel work a gang of men is reconstructing the Moki road to the entrance. Bad corners are being cut back and the road has been repaired. This bridge was in danger of collapse until recently, and the layman often wondered why the steel girders on the railway line had not been utilised. The girders were deposited there ten years ago after having travelled over most of the Main Trunk line, and are still at the wrong place. Personal and General. Mr. T. McCulloch spent a night at Tahora recently. Miss D. Dyson is the guest of Mrs. Charles Grant. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Brodie have returned to New Plymouth. Mr. Fred Bolton visited Whangamomona during the week-end. Messrs. Watson and Guthrie visited Whangamomona on Friday. Mr. D. Shewry visited Stratford on Saturday. . A birthday party was given by Mr. R. Tadd at the residence of Mr. M. Burns. Among the items most appreciated was “The Man from Snowy recited by Mr. James Ambrose. Mr. and Mrs. C. Drader have returned from a visit to New Plymouth, The county grader, driven by Mr. Jack Fougere, has been grading all the clay roads in the county. This year for the first time Armstrong Street has been done, probably to give access to the new teacher’s residence. The roads were in excellent condition until recently when a large number of cattle proceeded to undo all the grader’s good work during the wettest day last week. Cars also tore out all the recently filled ruts to the “Flat,” much to the annoyance of the surfaceman. At the Social Club’s last dance what is believed to be a theft was committed. A young dancer, having purchased a new pair of shoes for the occasion, left them in the ladies’ room during the dance but failed to find them at the conclusion of the evening. “A complete cure from failing eyesight” has been discovered by a Tahora resident, who claims to have benefited greatly from his own appliaction of a lotion consisting chiefly of papa dissolved in juice extracted from the tutu tree. Residents of the district are keenly interested and several are contemplating undergoing treatment
