RAWHITIROA DISTRICT NEWS

PRESENTATION TO MR. WILSON. Opportunity was given the school children of the Rawhitiroa district to farewell their teacher, Mr. A. M. Wilson, during his recent brief visit to the district prior to his taking up duties at Auckland. A ’ pleasant afternoon was held at the hall. Mr. Wikon was presented with a pair of hair brushes and a shaving kit. On behalf of the pupils Master Jack Johnston expressed the regret of his classmates that Mr. Wilson was leaving them and wished him well for the future, Miss Ruth Cocker then made the presentation.' Mr. Wilson, in thanking the children for their gifts, gave them a message on the value of happiness and urged them to cultivate the,same spirit of co-opera-tion that their' parents employed. He regretted' very much leaving them and asked them to give their new teacher the same whole-hearted support that he had enjoyed from them. Speaking fqr ‘ the parents and school committee, Mr.. L. M. Prankerd thanked Mr. Wilson for the opportunity he had afforded the children of saying farewell to him. He assured Mr. Wilson that the children regretted Iris departure very deeply, as also did the parents. Afternoon tea was served by ladies of the district. Injured on Ensilage Field. While engaged in ensilage-making recently Mr. W. H. Mace had the misfortune to wrench several muscles of his back. He has been incapacitated from work but is making satisfactory progress. Tennis. L. Bootten successfully defended eighth position from A. Phillips 6—5 in a ladder match. The placings now are: Ladies: Mrs. R. Adams, Miss Small, Miss M. Howe, Mrs. J. Knuckey, Misses Miller, G. Willy, P. O’Connor, D. Robinson, Mrs. F. Cave, Miss G. Silver. Men: D. Knuckey, L. Stretton, R. Adams, D. Silver, S. Herdman, R. Herdman, T. Robinson, L. Bootten, R. Bootten, A. Phillips. Cricket. The following players from the Rawhitiroa Cricket Club have been selected to take part in the Southern Rural Association’s trial match: L. M. Prankerd, D. Scott, L. Stretton and R. Bootten. D, Knuckey was selected but is not available. Personal. Miss P. Street has returned to Rahotu. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Belcher and family are spending a few days at Urenui beach. , Miss E. Belcher is visiting Rahotu, where she is the guest of Miss P. Street.
