ROWING MATCH AT WAITARA

CLIFTON CLUB TROPHY RACES. OLSSON’S RATHER LUCKY WIN. Tire Clifton Rowing Club’s competition for the president’s trophies and Avery Cup was rowed on Thursday and Friday before a fair attendance of spectators. The final was won by Olsson’s crew. Two heats were rowed on Thursday, the first with two crews and the second with three. Mr. P. Jones was starter and Mr. J. Vickery judge and timekeeper. Results are:—

First heat: F. Olsson (stroke), A. Colllins, J. Olsson and R. Chapman, 1; L. Byron (stroke), K. Keith, E. Blair and W. Raumati, 2. Length and a-half. Time, 3m. 495.

Second heat: T. G. Fowler (stroke), L. Herbert, R. Tumona and A. Rowe, 1; M. Sampson (stroke), T. Stockman, W. Leppard and H. Watson, 2; J. Donaldson (stroke), T. Sampson, E. Blair and F. Chittenden, 3. Length and a-half. Time, 3m. 475.

Third heat: H., Stockman (stroke), O. Sampson, M. Willison, L. Andrews, 1; Reg. George (stroke), K. Keith, M. Elliot, D. Locke, 2; O. Keith (stroke), C. Tate, R. Taylor, W. Raumati, 3. Length; canvas. The final, in which three boats started, resulted in a win for Olsson’s crew, which was somewhat lucky, Stockman’s and Fowler’s crews fouling opposite the freezing works wharf. The mishap appeared to be caused by faulty steering of the cox in No. 3 water, and had it not happened it appeared that the final would have gone to Fowler's crew.

The next competition will be for Mr. M. Fahy’s trophies and the Drysdale Cup, which will take place some time next month.
