FULFILMENT OF PROPHECIES RATANA VILLAGE CELEBRATIONS. MORE THAN USUAL IMPORTANCE. PRESENCE OF THE KING A FEATUhb. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The 61st birthday celebrations of, Wiremu Ratana, the Maori “prophet,” are in progress at Ratana Village, where there is a gathering of about 3000 Maoris. The celebrations this year are of more than the usual importance by reason of the fact that the young Maori King Koroki, with a retinue of 208 followers, is among the guests . Yesterday was occupied with speechmaking, while to-day a sports gathering was held. ' „ , . It is stated that the visit of the king means a great deal, for it signifies a cementing of the tribes from the Waikato district with those in the Wanganui aistrict and in other parts of the west coast. As one of the executive of the Ratana movement put it, “it means the fulfilling of the statements of our forefathers that the Maoris should be as one family and not split up into various sections.”
