Mrs. A. W. Diprose returned home yesterday after a holiday in Auckland. Mrs. T. Horton has returned from a brief visit to Palmerston North. Mrs. P. L. Bennett spent a few days at Wanganui this week. Miss Linda Medley will return to-day after a fortnight spent at Kawhia. Mrs. A. H. Blennerhassett returned on Thursday from a visit to Auckland. Miss M. Duder, Auckland, is visiting New Plymouth. Mrs. F. C. Walton returned on Tuesday from a motoring tour of the north. Mrs. H. Kay and Miss Rene Johnstone have returned after a fortnight spent at Auckland. Miss E. Bruce will return this evening from Wellington. Mrs. H. Greig entertained at a croquet and bridge* afternoon on Tuesday. Mrs. W. Walker, Auckland, has arrived on a visit to Mrs. S. Walker. Mrs. E. Griffiths was hostess at a garden party on Tuesday afternoon. Miss Vinnie Boss left yesterday on a short visit to Auckland. Mrs. E. Thomson, Miss Thomson and Mrs. Butchart have returned from a visit to Auckland. Mrs. T. Wilson and family will return to-day from a holiday spent at Makuri. Mrs. Franklin White was a hostess at bridge on Thursday. Miss Doris Armit, Remuera, is the guest of Mrs. J. S. Medley. Mrs. C. N. Taylor entertained at a very jolly party for the young people on Wednesday night. Mrs. J. Horton, left on Thursday for Hamilton. Miss Jean Amner has been visiting Miss Gwen Griffith and left yesterday on her return to Napier. Miss Margaret Balharry will return to Havelock North to-day after spending the holidays at New Plymouth. Miss-Helen Livesey has returned to Temuka after spending a holiday as the guest of Mrs. H. W. Whitcombe. Mrs. L. C. Sladden and Miss Marjorie Sladden returned on Wednesday from a camping holiday at Lake Rotoiti. Mrs. F. G. Gill and the Misses Gill will return to Masterton to-day after spending a holiday with Mrs. Beatson Blundell, Tataraimaka. Mrs. Surrey Alleman returned to Auckland on Wednesday night after spending a holiday at New Plymouth as the guest of Mrs. S. Alleman.

Wade and family and Miss Natalie Holmes will return to-day from a holiday spent at Dawson Falls. Mrs. T. A. Edwards, who has been spending a holiday with her mother, Mrs. J. S. Leitch, will return to Christchurch on Monday. The Misses de Renzi, Hamilton, have ■been visiting New Plymouth and will leave on their return to-day. Miss Esther Wright left on Monday to spend several weeks in the North Auckland district. Miss May Smart was guest of honour at several bridge parties during the week, the hostesses being Mrs. P. E. Stainton, Mrs. W. B. Russell and Mrs. Cyril Lash. Mrs. Cyril Hart, Stratford, visited New Plymouth on Thursday before leaving yesterday to spend a holiday at Auckland. A very enjoyable surprise party was held at the home of Miss Gwen Griffith on Thursday night, when about twelve couples enjoyed dancing. Mrs. E. G. Rollo, Hamilton, who has been the guest of Mrs. W. F. McAllum, is to leave New Plymouth this morning for Hawera. Mrs- N. H. S. Law, w'ho has been visiting her sister-in-law, Mrs. W. G. Reid, Baring terrace, left yesterday by motor on her return to Auckland. Miss N. Williams, of the nursing staff of the Hamilton hospital, is visiting Rahotu, where she is the guest- of her mother, Mrs. A. E. Williams, Ngariki Road, Rahotu, Miss Ma Lysons, Vdio for some years has been studying at the Slade School of Art, London, arrived at New Plymouth on Tuesday on a visit to her mother, Mrs. E. W. M. Lysons. Among the visitors at the Hotel Imperial this week were Mrs. 0. R. Earle, Johannesburg, Mrs. H. S. Kingon, Rotorua, Mrs. C. Kay, Wellington, Misses T. and H. Baines, Te Aroha, and Miss Smith, North Otago. Nurae M. M. Shepherd, who passed first for the Dominion with honours in the recent State midwifery examinations, received her general training in the Waihi hospital. Later she was on the relieving staff of the New Plymouth hospital for a few weeks prior to taking her midwifery training at St. Helen’s hospital, Wellington. Subsequently aha received a permanent appointment at die Whangawei maternity annexe. Miss Shepherd is a Taranaki girl, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. Shepherd, residing at Ahititi.

Smart, Haivera, are all visitors to New Plymouth for the wedding of Miss May Smart, which is to take place this evening. A garden party will be held by the members, of the Victoria League next Wednesday afternoon at “Maranui,” the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. C. List, Avenue Road. Arrangements have been made for games and competitions to be held on the lawns and visitors will be able to. wander through to the adjoining grounds of “Brooklands,” where the begonias are particularly fine.
