Miss May Burgess is visiting friends at Auckland. Miss Joy Burt returned to Khandallah on Thursday. Miss Read, Christchurch, is Mrs. John Houston’s - guest. Mrs. H. T. Underhill and family, who have been Mrs. W. Syme’s guests at Ohawe beach, left on Thursday morning on their return to Wellington. Miss J. Rae, Auckland, is staying with her sister, Mrs. J. Y. Hall. Mrs. lan Keith, who has spent the past few weeks at Hawera, will return to New Plymouth on Monday. Mrs. Powdrell returned home during the week. Miss Stella Meuli, Wanganui, is staying with Mrs. George Meuli, Okaiawa. Miss S. Evans, who spent the vacation with friends at Auckland, has returned home. x Mrs. M. Barnes, Palmerston North, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. W. Hine, Tokaora. Miss Pat. Lovell, who has been spending a few weeks at Dunedin as Miss Molly Runnerstrum’s guest, will return home on Tuesday. Miss M. Rae, Hunterville, who has been staying with Mrs. J. Y. Hall for a few weeks, left yesterday for her home. Miss Nancy Hine, who has been the guest of her aunt, Mrs. C. C. James, Albert Road, New Plymouth, returned to Tokaora during the week. Mrs. J. O’Sullivan, Matapu, and Misses Irene and Kathleen O’Sullivan left by car on Thursday morning for Taupo and Rotorua. Mrs. W. Farquharson and Miss Molly Washer motored to Patea on Tuesday night to attend the coming-of-age dance given in honour of Miss Phyllis Simmonds by Dr. and Mrs. Simmonds. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Gresham, Christchurch, spent a few days in Hawera early in the week on their return south from Auckland. Mrs. A. Wilson, Auckland, accompanied by her two daughters, who have been spending several weeks with Mrs. A. Harrop, will leave on their return north on Monday. . Wearing a black, red and fawn novelty check frock, Mrs. W. O. Williams entertained at tea on Wednesday afternoon. Mesdames A. Hunter, Rev. Caplen, L. J. Bull, E. R. Dale, A. Coleman and Misses K. Coleman, B. Theed, I. Watty and Rawson were among the guests. Mrs. C. S. Robb received several visitors on Thursday afternoon wearing a plum-coloured satin frock, smartly trimmed with chinchilla grey fur. Mesdames Wilson (Auckland), A. Harrop, R. Speer, L. S. Giblin, C. Whittington and N. F. Stead were guests at tea. At the Hawera croquet lawns on Tuesday the Collins silver ferns were won by Miss M. C. Power and Mrs. W. G. Strange, and yesterday Mrs. Guy and Mrs. W..F. Buist won the Dowling buttons. Among those who travelled to Wanganui on Wednesday for the Hine-Cottier wedding were Mrs. W. T. Good, Misses Hunter, H. Good, N. Davis, B. Sheriff and C. Rowe. Sir Charles and Lady Kingsford Smith are returning to Sydney next week and will be among the guests at the SuttonTodhunter wedding on Tuesday week, Sir Charles being a cousin of the bride-to-be. Wearing an attractive afternoon frock in green tonings, Mrs. Welsh was hostess at tea on Wednesday afternoon, Mesdames R. L. Pease, Dingle, A. Woodward, E. Evans, W. J. Bright, L. Bishop, C. Bayley and Misses Dingle and J. Evans were among the guests. On Tuesday, February 6, the wedding will take place in Sydney of Miss Beryl Tddhunter, Vaucluse, and Mr. Jack Sutton, Hawera. Although a Sydney girl, Miss Todhunter is already well-known at Hawera, having visited there on two occasions. Mr. Sutton, accompanied by two friends who are to be in the official party, will leave for Sydney from Auckland to-day. ' A pleasant afternoon gathering took place at the Women’s Club on Thursday, when a specialty tea was dispensed and music from the club orchestra was much appreciated.
