FAREWELL TO TEACHER

PRESENTATION TO MR. A. M. WILSON RAWHITIROA. SETTLERS GATHER. A large gathering at Rawhitiroa hall on Thursday night farewelled Mr. A. M. Wilson, teacher at the school, who is leaving to take up a teaching position at Grey Lynn. In making a presentation of a leather suit case on behalf of the residents Mr. L. M. Prankerd, chairman of the committee, expressed the regret felt by parents and children at the teacher’s departure, and extended their good wishes. Mr. G. V. Thame, chairman of the hall committee, referred to the great interest Mr. Wilson had taken in the social life of the district, and said he had rendered useful service to local sport such as tennis and crib. The children would miss their teacher very much. Mr. J. Cocker joined in the tributes and mentioned how Mr. Wilson had served the district by his musical abilities, his services always being given willingly. His relations with the school committee had always been of the happiest, and as a teacher he had received excellent reports from the inspectors. His departure would be regretted by all in the district, but he would always be assured of a warm welcome when he visited the district on holiday. In acknowledgment Mr. Wilson said the three years and three months he had spent at Rawhitiroa had been happy days, and anything he had done for the district had given him perhaps more pleasure than it had given the residents. He had become very fond of.the children and he felt sad at having to leave them. He had also formed many friendships, and he would always be pleased to come back on a visit. He thanked the residents for their splendid support to his efforts for the school, and he asked them to accord the same to his successor, Mr. E. G. Smith, who would be found to be a “real live wire.” The evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with songs by Mrs. W. Mace, Messrs. S. Carson and P. Gavigan and recitations by Mr. G. Littlejohn. Dance music was played by Mrs. W. Hutchens, Mrs. M. Attrill, Misses G. Silver, E. Cocker and Mr. A. M. Wilson. The accompanists were Mr. R. Silver and Mesdames Attrill and A. Craig.
