STAVISKY SCANDAL NOT YET DEAD ADVANCES ON JEWELS OF PASTE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 10.10 p.m. Paris, Jan. 25. Henri Cohen, an expert valuer of jewellery at the Bayonne municipal pawnbrokery with which Stavisky was concerned, has been arrested after the discovery that the jewels he examined were almost worthless. Before Cohen’s arrest at Bayonne 53 boxes allegedly containing jewels, against which advances had been made, were, opened at the Credit Municipal. The magistrate decided it was useless to continue the examination. The contents were mostly paste. One box, which was valued according to its label at £7500, and on which £6250 had been advanced, proved to be worth £2B. The newspapers assert that 1200 documents bearing on the Stavisky case mysteriously disappeared and many complaints lapsed through the statute of limitations. Renewed rioting as a result of the Stavisky scandal took place early this morning in the vicinity of the Chamber of Deputies. Further arrests were made.
