GOVERNMENT ENDS STRIKE CUBAN WORKERS COMPELLED AMERICAN £40,000,000 PLANT NO INDICATION OF RETURN By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 8.15 p.m. Havana, Jan. 14. The Government seized public utilities, virtually all American-owned and valued at about £40,000,000, to-day to continue water, gas and electricity supplies after a general strike forced complete cessation of such services. Company officials flatly refused the workers’ demands and at six o’clock in the morning the workers halted the services. Street trams stopped and the kick of water created an acute fire danger. Under the Government’s decree the workers are forced to perform the services. There is no indication of on what basis, if any, the Government expects to return the property to its owners.
