DISAPPEARANCE OF £0

ULM’S ’PLANE AT HAWEIRA SUM BELIEVED LEFT IN CABIN. 200 PEOPLE IN MACHINE ON DAY. COMPLAINT WRITTEN TO POLICE. The sum of £6O is reported to have disappeared from the Faith in Australia while it was at Hawera. The money was portion of the proceeds of passenger flights at Levin on Wednesday. It was rolled in a sock and hidden in the pocket of a coat, belonging to a member of the ground crew of the plane, who was employed as booking clerk. When the plane left Levin the coat was thrown into the luggage rack on the wall of the cabin. On arrival at Hawera the suitcases and aviation gear in the cabin were removed to the Hawera Aero Club’s hangar for safety, the coat evidently being forgotten. The loss of the money was not discovered until 6 p.m., when the day’s takings were being checked. Over 200 people were in the cabin during the day. No report of the occurrence was made to anyone at Hawera and the plane left next morning for Wanganui. From there the pilot, Mr. “Scotty” Allen, communicated with the police at Hawera. It was recorded yesterday that Mr. Orr, a member of the ground staff of the Faith in Australia had missed a valued autograph album at Hawera.
