BUSH WANDERINGS

DROVER LOST FOR TWO DAYS. Brisbane, Jan. 12. Fine physique and stamina saved Leonard Vale, who was lost beyond Aramac for two days. He was without water.

Vale, who is now an inmate of Barcaldine hospital, is 23 years of age, and 6ft. 2in. in height. He left Mr. Ernest Coleman’s droving plant, about 100 miles beyond Aramac, on Friday morning. Some horses escaped on Thursday night, and next morning he tracked them for about ten miles, and caught them, but the animals again escaped. The country is very wild, with much high grass. He chased the horses for about half a mile on foot, and was then suffering from thirst and fatigue. He rested until sundown and set off for the drovers’ camp, but had to rest every thirty or forty yards. He apparently then went to sleep. He could not account for his movements on Saturday. Apparently he wandered all day. On Sunday morning he heard the noise of a car. He jumped to his feet, and Messrs. T. Alexander and Pope, of Eastfield station, saw him and picked him up. During the two days he was without water he chewed pig weed, which provided some moisture.
