CAR DROPS FORTY FEET

ALLEGEDLY FORCED OFF ROAD. TWO PEOPLE INJURED. Wellington, Jan. 15. Two persons are in hospital as a result of an accident about three miles north of Johnsonville on Saturday evening when a tourer car, in which they were driving, was allegedly forced off the road by another vehicle, which overtook them.. The car plunged into the old Porirua stream forty feet below. The names of the injured are: Mr. George Kermode, and Mrs. Emma Legge, both of whom reside in Bidwell Street, Wellington. The former, it is understood, recived injuries to the head, left arm and a fractured pelvis, as well as severe shock; Mrs. Legge received severe bruises and abrasions to the shoulders and arms. Mr. Kermode, who was driving the car, and Mrs. Legge, were proceeding along from Tawa Flat to Glenside at about 5.45 p.m., when the mishap occurred. The other vehicle, which is understood to be a motor-lorry, suddenly overtook them, allegedly forcing the car toward the fence and finally off the road into the old Porirua stream. The lorry did v not stop, and has not yet been located, although the police have a description of it. Both Mr. Kermode and Mrs. Legge were rendered unconscious. Dr. Aitken, of Johnsonville, who was on the scene with the police shortly after 6 o’clock, attended to the injured persons, who were later removed to the hospital in the Free Ambulance. The car was a total wrecK.
