STANDARD RATES OF PAY
PROGRAMME OF PUBLIC WORKS.
CHRISTCHURCH RESOLUTION.
By Telegraph—Presss Association. Christchurch, Last Night
The Christchurch Unemployment Committee to-day carried the following resolution: “That the committee is strongly of the opinion that it is essential to reduce the number of men employed oh the No. 5 scheme as early as possible. It therefore requests the Unemployment Board, in conjunction with the Public Works Department, to consider the possibility of the payment of standard rates on certain public works to be approved by the board, Government departments and local bodies to be invited to forward a list of such public works to the board, and that the sustenance clauses in the Unemployment Act be put into operation as far as unemployable men are concerned.”
