IMPROVEMENT IN INDUSTRY.

Figures quoted lately by the New South Wales Minister of Labour, Mr. Dunningham, revealed an appreciable improvement in industry. ,He said that, in September the number of registered unemployed engaged on emergency relief works through the agency of municipal and shire councils was 29,299, and the number in receipt of food relief was 64,727, making a total of 94,026. During October the number employed on emergency relief works increased to 33,036, while the number drawing food relief decreased to 53,511. The total receiving assistance by either method thus decreased during the month to 86,547. While the number receiving food relief decreased by 11,216, the increase in the number engaged on emergency relief works was only 3737. The remaining 7479 persons who ceased drawing food relief were placed in employment either on relief works or were absorbed in private industry.
