Norfolk: In the absence of the president through illness -Mrs. A. George presided over a meeting of the institute exexcutive, when arrangements for the monthly evenings for the next six months were completed.-; Whareroa: The monthly meeting was held on Saturday, there being a large attendance of members and visitors presided over by Mrs. Larcom. Eleven new members were enrolled. Mrs. Larcom outlined the business at the half-yearly conference at Patea. The committee, reported deciding to play “Mr. . John . at the drama festival. A very interesting demonstration was given by Mrs. Larcom of re-footing stockings. The competition for the afternoon was for any article made from material costing one shilling. The winners were Mrs. Laing 1, Mrs. Nicholas 2, Mrs. Aberley 3. Miss Harvey was judge. It was unanimously decided to assist the Red Cross appeal in the endeavour to restore the Russian girl (now in Russia) to her parents. residing in New Zealand. Mrs. Christie, a member of the Fordell Institute, was welcomed. The hostesses, Mesdames J. and H. Steffert and Misses G. Reynolds and I. Nicholas, provided afternoon tea. A game, musical stick and community singing were enjoyed. _ Opunake: Mrs. Rikihana presided over a fair attendance at the Opunake Maori Women’s Institute’s monthly meeting. A competition for the best article .made from a sugar-bag was won by Miss A. Bishop, with Mrs. G. Bishop second. A vote of sympathy was accorded Mrs. Clare in the death of her father. The treasurer tendered her resignation as she was shortly to leave the district, and Mrs. P. Bishop was elected to her place. Motunui: The monthly meeting in the hall was well attended. The president, Mrs. Greenwood, welcomed six new members, making a total of 26. A competition, judged by Misses Evans and Ross, was won by Misses M. Greenwood and E. Newman. Kaponga: The monthly meeting was held at the parish hall, the largest membership requiring the extra accommodation. Mrs. R. D. Dagg presided over a very good attendance. ation of a drama circle and it. was subsequently decided that the branch would form a circle. The competition was for the best “soft” toys and was won by Mrs. Blackwell with Mrs. Gordge second and Mrs. Jackson third. Other competitions were won by Mrs. S. Brown and Mrs. Bennie and Mrs. Jackson. Hostesses were Mesdames Webby, Boyle, Melville and Nelson. Ipglewood: In perfect weather on weanesday afternoon the Inglewood Women s Institute held a garden party in the picturesque grounds of Miss Trimble, Norfolk Road. A very large gathering attended and visitors from other institutes were present. A putting competition, Aunt Sally and skittles caused much merriment. Mrs. Porter donated a cake which was won by Mrs. J. Hunter, Norfolk Road. Afternoon tea was served under the trees and the masses of gay flowers were admired by everyone.
