WAITARA GOLF ACTIVITY
LADIES’ CLOSING DAY HELD. The Waitara Golf Club’s official closing day for ladies was held on Tuesday afternoon, a large attendance of members and visitors being present. Mrs. H. J. Wells on behalf of the visitors thanked the members for their hospitality. During the afternoon various competitions were played, the first being a “put and take” competition in which good cards were returned. An approach competition for members for Miss Foreman's trophy was wan by Miss Gorrie, a first year players’ putting competition was won by Mrs. R. H. Early, and a visitors' putting competition resulted in Mrs. Wells and Mrs. Anderson tying. In the play-off Mrs. Wells won.
During the tea adjournment the captain (Mrs. I. Prichard) welcomed the visitors. Mrs, Prichard congratulated the members on their much improved play during the season. On behalf of the members, she farewelled Miss N. Armstrong, who is to be married shortly, and afterwards will reside at Stratford. Mrs. Prichard presented to Miss Armstrong a silver vase as a memento of the times spent on the Waitara links. Miss Armstrong replied. Mr. E. A. George, the club captain, also congratulated the ladies on their play and the successful season, and presented the trophies won during the season, which were as follows, the donor’s name in each case being in parentheses: May eclectic match (Mrs. Prichard), senior, Miss Knight, junior, Mrs. Prior; runner-up for Barclay Cup (Miss Armstrong), Mrs. G. Knight; flag match (Miss Allen), Mrs. G. Knight; one club and putter competition (Mrs. E. A. George), Mrs. G. Knight; runner-up for Manakorihi Cup (Mrs. Dunbar), Miss Wills; sealed medal match (Mrs. Sarten), Miss Allen; medal match (Mrs. Hamlin), Mrs. Fookes; bogey match (Mrs. Middleton), Miss Wills; best scores for L.G.U. for August (Mrs., Whyte), Mrs. Dunbar; eclectic sheet for season, Miss Foreman. CARD EVENINGS HELD.
Six tables, were engaged at the euchre party held at Waitara on Tuesday night under the auspices of the Waitara Cycle, Athletic and Axemen’s Club. The prize winners were: Mrs. T. Cooper 1, Mrs. C. C. Dimmer 2, Mrs. J. Eriwata 3; lyir. D. Fulton 1, Mr. H. George 2, Mr. A. McKenzie 3. Five tables were engaged at the weekly bridge party held on Wednesday night in aid of St. John’s (Anglican) rose show. Miss Armstrong won the ladies' prize and Mr. C. M. Whyte the men’s prize.
