CARDIFF DISTRICT NEWS
TENNIS CLUB PREPARATIONS. A meeting of the Cardiff Tennis Club committee was held on Monday night. Members present were Messrs. H. Limmer (chairman), L. Redshaw (secretary), Miss G. Horn, Mrs. Wisnewski, Messrs. L. Wickham, H. Millar and C. Hawkes. The question of arranging competitions for opening day, which is to be Labour Day, was discussed and it was decided to hold a match between teams chosen by the president and the secretary. A committee to work in conjunction with the cricket committee for the purpose of arranging a dance was chosen, the members being Messrs. L. Redshaw, H. Millar and C. Hawkes, The courts, which have received considerable attention throughout ’ the winter, are now in excellent order and the new grass borders are showing good growth. Members will appreciate these during the summer for they will eliminate dust, which in the past has been a serious handicap. Although the district has been experiencing a lengthy spell of dry weather this has not made any appreciable difference to the milk supply, which is practically the same as at this time last year. This may be partially due to the fact that the weather, though comparatively dry, was much warmer than usual, and therefore greater growth has taken place.
There has been a steady daily influx of fishermen to the river since the opening of the season, and judging by the bulging bags it would seem that all the local fish stories are not without foundation. The river is particularly well stocked this year, and contrary to the usual state the fish are rising well.
