HAWERA PARK CROQUET
SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENED. A large and enthusiastic gathering was present at the official opening of the Park croquet lawns at Hawera on Wednesday afternoon, with weather conditions ideal. The courts were in perfect order and the beautiful surroundings of the lawns were admired. Mrs. N. Murdock, president of the club, welcomed visitors and trusted all would enjoy a happy and profitable season. . The Mayoress, Mrs. J. C. Campbell, wished the members a successful season, and then made-the first hoop, declaring the greens open. The Mayoress and president were presented with posies made by Mrs. Hobbs. The following clubs were represented: New Plymouth, Inglewood, Eltham, Kaponga, Okaiawa, Opunake, Manaia, Hawera.
Competitions played during the afternoon resulted: Ladder, Mrs. Watt (Opunake) 1, Mrs. Baker (Okaiawa) 2; golf, Mrs. Bublitz (Inglewood) 1, Mrs. Rae (Okaiawa) 2; drive, Mrs. Ashton (Inglewood) 1, Mrs. Harding (Park) 2; hurry scurry, Mrs. Chadwick and Mrs. Spragg (Park).
The Mayoress presented the trophies and thanked the Park club for an’enjoyable time.
