The first round of the New Zealand women’s golf championship was played in ideal weather to-day. The only Taranaki survivors are Mrs. A. Thomson and Mrs. I. Rota, both of Hawera. Mrs. Rota was runner-up to Mrs. Cook (Castlecliff), in the medal match this afternoon. . The results of the first round are:— Miss K. Johnston (Christchurch) beat Miss M. Ward (Heretaunga) 1 up. The Coronation Medal match played this afternoon was won by Mrs> Cook (Castlecliff) with 76—4—72. Mrs. Rota (Hawera) was runner-up with 83—9 —74. Mrs. Cook’s was the best gross score.
