WOMEN’S DIVISION BIRTHDAY. The euchre party and dance held by the Bell Block branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union to celebrate the third anniversary proved an outstanding success, visitors being present from all neighbouring districts. Euchre was played in the supper room under the supervision of Mrs. A. Grover and Mrs. T. Sampson, eleven tables being occupied. The winners were Miss A. Hoskin 1, Mrs. A. Rowe and Mrs. Beggs tie for second, Mrs. Beggs winning the cut; Mr. A. Fulton (Brixton) 1, Mr. J. Bethell 2. . . Dancing was enjoyed in the main hall, which had been decorated with greenery and the division colours. Above the stage were the letters W.D.F.U. surmounted by a large W.D. badge. The floor was well filled with, dancers. Messrs. Rowe and Watson supplied excellent music, and Miss Joyce Hammond and Miss Lottie Sampson played extras. Mrs. W. Hoskin and Misses M. French and L. Sampson were masters of ceremonies. Several novelty dances were held during the evening, Monte Carlos being won by Mr. T. Hoskin and Miss Hurley and. Mr. Dryden and Miss V. Hoskin. A lucky spot was won by Mr. Black and Miss Sampson and a “mystery” dance by Mr. Marsh and Miss Draper. During supper, which was served by the ladies, the large birthday cake with its three candles was brought into the hall. Mrs. A. Hill, vice-president, lit the candles. Before cutting the cake, the president, Mrs. French, thanked those who attended and explained that previously the birthday gatherings had been held in the afternoon when members were present. This year, however, the gathering was held in the evening that all might attend, including the men. The cake was then cut and handed round.
